Öppen is a truly sustainable building, well insulated and very accurately constructed to achieve very low air leakage. Many components are manufactured off-site, resulting in very low site waste. Öppen has exposed thermal mass for passive cooling, and high floor-to-ceiling heights for stratification. This height coupled with large windows provides deep penetration of natural light and ventilation. Fully adaptable to changing needs by design, Öppen’s carbon footprint can be amortised over 60 years.
As standard, Öppen complies with the already stringent UK Building Regulations.
Option: 25% or 50% increase in wall and roof insulation levels. Super efficient natural ventilation by Breathing Buildings.
Through a combination of roof top solar collectors, thermal storage tanks, shallow ground source heat pipes and heat pumps, all powered by roof top photo-voltaic panels, the entire heating and cooling load of the building can be provided with zero carbon production. This upgrade must be used in association with an under floor heating system.
The external walls are fully insulated and clad in metal panels.
